Remove Spiderwebs And Dirty Residue From A Neon Sign

If the neon sign that is hanging over the front of the boutique that you own is covered with spiderwebs and has dirty residue on its surface, it may be diminishing the appearance of your business’ exterior and may be overlooked by people who are passing by. Clean the sign with the following steps to restore it to an attractive form of advertising that will draw the attention of potential customers.

  • ladder
  • handheld scrub brush
  • nylon stocking
  • scissors
  • compressed air
  • vacuum cleaner with hose attachment
  • ammonia-based cleaner
  • lint-free cloths
  • water

Remove Spiderwebs And Surface Dirt

Turn off the sign and unplug it. Set a ladder up next to the sign. Cut one of the foot portion’s from a pair of nylon stockings. Stretch the stocking piece over the end of a handheld scrub brush. Move the brush gently over the sign’s surface to remove cobwebs and surface dirt that is stuck between the light’s tubes. The nylon will attract dirty substances as you move it over the light.

If any dust particles are difficult to remove, point a can of compressed air’s nozzle at the residue while pressing the button on the can. A vacuum cleaner’s hose can also be used to complete this step if you own one that is lightweight and that can easily be maneuvered from the ladder.

Wipe The Light’s Tubes Off

Pour a small amount of an ammonia-based cleaner onto a lint-free cloth. Apply gentle pressure to the back of the cloth as you move it over each light tube. Add more ammonia to the cloth as needed. Switch to a new cloth if the current one that you are using becomes extremely dirty. After each tube’s surface is clean, wipe the same parts of the light with a damp, lint-free cloth. Dry the light’s surface off with a clean cloth after you have finished. Plug the light in and turn it on.

Maintain The Light Throughout The Year

Instead of waiting for the light to have a very dirty appearance before cleaning it, get into the practice of keeping it maintained on a regular basis. Remove dirt and cobwebs and wipe the light’s tubes off with a cleaning solution on a monthly basis or, at least, a few times a year. As a result, the light will continue to effectively advertise your business and cleaning its surface won’t take as long because not as much dirt will accumulate in between maintenance sessions.
